Stress and the holiday season often go hand in hand. It can be very easy to get wrapped up in the business of the season and neglect our own health. Here are a few tips to beat stress and stay healthy this year.
Stay active. Getting 20-30 minutes of exercise most days of the week is not only heart healthy, but also increases our mood.
Eat healthy, the majority of the time. Eat a healthy snack before an event where you are likely to overeat. This can help you make better choices and avoid eating too much. Also, make healthier food swaps when you can.
Enjoy your time with friends, family and your community. But try to leave some wiggle room in your schedule for rest and relaxation.
Get outdoors. The cold weather can make this more difficult, but take advantage of the sunshine when you can.
Sleep. Make sure that you can getting 8-10 hours of sleep per night.
Feed your spiritual needs. Meditation and prayer are few helpful ways to address spirituality, but finding a way to best meet your own personal needs can be beneficial.
Enjoy the holidays!
